3D Metal Pop Art by Alan Derrick
When I first came up with the idea of 3D Metal Pop Art, I was actually looking for a way to create sculptures using the tools, equipment, knowledge, and skill that I already had. I had been making larger than life stylized bird feather sculptures. To that end, I had acquired the tools, equipment and the skills to use them. I even built a shop. Then the 2008 market crash forced me to rethink what I had been doing.
The feather sculptures were being fabricated from sheet metal. I had developed a style for the painted finish using show car automotive paint where I sprayed, misted, and splattered the finish on. The problem was that each of the feathers required many hours of hard work to create, making them very expensive for the average art lover to purchase.
