3D Metal Pop Art by Alan Derrick
I have always struggled with the effort to get this art form to give up a pleasing image while minimizing technical challenges. In most cases, I can create the illusions that I see in my mind's eye with just a couple of metal parts, one layered over the other. In a few cases, it takes three or four parts.
To do Stevie justice in this pose, it took six parts. Additionally, they were delicate parts until they had been painted and assembled. The finished piece is looks simple, but it is the most complex of any I have created to date. I hope that you like it.
For years now, I have focused on the human form. I felt that it was time to try something new. I had received many requests to do something in the way of a K9 image. Being a dog lover myself, it was a natural fit.
I started the project by looking to see what breeds have an enthusiastic following. That led me to contact an advocacy group with an international following called "Pit Bull Rescue Central". I asked if they would be interested in collaborating on the design. In exchange, I would donate the Artist Proof for their fund raising efforts.
